Les rencontres d'Arles

Summertime sees city | art insider clients at les Rencontres d'Arles, in Arles, Provence, France, enjoying the best of new, international photography.

Half the fun is that the art is shown in a wide variety of settings -- from industrial buildings to 12th century churches, many of which are only open to the public during the festival.

The festival was started in 1968 by the photographer Lucien Clergue, the writer Michel Tournier and the historian Jean-Maurice Rouquette.

Arles is a unique destination, home to France's national school of photography in the splendid Hôtel de Quiqueran de Beaujeu, on the rue des Arènes. The town has an incredible history dating from Roman times. We make sure to build in time for you to visit the Roman coliseum among other sights.
